Bottom paint is out of sight, out
of mind. Don't get a surprise when you
haul your boat out for either a routine or
pre-purchase inspection. This is an area
that is often neglected and easily handled.
Even new boats need
bottom paint installed. Especially if your
boat sits in the water 100% of the time or
something more than 50%. When the boats
come from the factory, the bottom of the hulls
is painted just like the rest of the boat.
However the section of the hull that it always
below water is constantly getting action.
From the friction of water going by, to bumping
into debris in the water, to water temperature
changes, to just about anything else you can
imagine. This is the most exposed area of
your boat to the elements and therefore needs
the most protection. Let's use an analogy
- there used to be a time when a new car was
purchased that one of the first additional items
needing to be performed was to have
"undercoating" added. This was to protect
the under side of the car from all of the
elements to which it is exposed. The same
is true with boats. The boat bottom needs
to be handled in the same manner today. It
is only a matter of time before the boat bottom
